****************************************************** Title: Kindergarten Sabbath School Program, February 12, 2000 From: NAD Children's Ministries (author: Lisa Seeders) Date Completed: January 31, 2000 Abstract: Acitivities to use in place of program helps to teach the lesson, I SEE SAID THE BLIND MAN ****************************************************** Lesson Aim: Because God has done so much for us, we will want to tell everyone about it. Memory Verse: ".........give thanks to the Lord for his unfailing love....." Psalm 107:8, NIV GETTING THEIR ATTENTION - BLIND MAN'S BLUFF Materials needed: Containers of things to smell such as: A container of spice (example: cinnamon) A tube or bottle of lotion Cream or ointment with menthol in it Things to feel such as: Piece of fur material Mirror Sandpaper Cassette tape recorder with three sounds recorded onto a tape such as: an animal noise, a train whistle or car horn, a kitchen appliance like the can opener etc. A blindfold for each child WHAT THE TEACHER DOES: (To prepare ahead) Place all the materials in a bag so they can't be seen by the children. WHAT THE CHILDREN DO: Blindfold each child. Tell them you have three things to feel, three things to smell and three things to hear. Bring the items out of the bag one at a time. Have the children take turns trying to identify the items they smell, feel or hear. (Use blindfolds that can be easily lifted and replaced by the child, so they can look after each item and have immediate feedback as to whether their guess was right or not.) Our story today is about a blind man who Jesus heals. Can you imagine how excited he was when he could finally see? Do you think he kept this good news to himself? GO STRAIGHT INTO THE BIBLE STORY. GETTING INTO SCRIPTURE - MEMORY VERSE VALENTINES Materials needed: Red construction paper Scissors Glue Valentine conversation hearts Bibles WHAT THE TEACHER DOES: (To prepare ahead) Cut red hearts out of the construction paper. Cut them big enough to print the memory verse on and still have room to decorate with conversation hearts. Cut 3-4 out for each child. Print the memory verse on each heart. (Older children may choose to cut their own hearts out.) WHAT THE CHILDREN DO: Have the children trace over the memory verse with a thin- tipped marker. Then glue 2-3 valentine conversation hearts to each red heart. Show the children where the memory verse is found in the Bible. Talk about how they can thank the Lord for His unfailing love by passing out the valentines and sharing that love with others. Make as many as time and interest allows. ACTING ON SCRIPTURE - WHAT HAS JESUS DONE FOR YOU? SONG Materials needed: Piano player or cassette tape recorder & tape Tune for London Bridge WHAT THE TEACHER DOES: (To prepare ahead) There are no advance preparations necessary unless you need to make a tape recording of the tune London Bridge is Falling Down. The tune needs to be played without words as many times as you have children in the class. WHAT THE CHILDREN TO: Select a child to stand opposite you and form a bridge by extending your arms out straight and clasping hands at the top. The remaining children in the class form a line and begin to file under the bridge. They circle around and continue passing under the bridge while the following words are sung to the tune of London Bridge. What has Jesus done for you done for you done for you What has Jesus done for you Please, please tell us. When you get to the part of the song that says, "tell us" bring your hands down closing whatever child is passing under the bridge inside your clasp. That child then thinks of something that Jesus has done for him/her that He wants to thank Him for. The game and music then resume. ACTING ON SCRIPTURE -GOD'S LOVE IS THE BEST BALLOONS Materials needed: 4 balloons (heart-shaped if possible; if not, a mixture of white, pink & red) Red and black permanent markers Ribbon (enough for each child to have a tail hanging from his/her balloon 3-4 feet) Trash bags (one for every two children in class) WHAT THE TEACHER DOES: (To prepare ahead) There are no advance preparations necessary. WHAT THE CHILDREN DO: Give each child 4 balloons to blow up. Tie a knot in each end. Attach a ribbon to each balloon. On each child's balloon draw a heart (unless the balloons are already heart-shaped). Inside the heart put one of the following words: God's Love Is Best. Each child should end up with four balloons. Help them identify which balloon has the word God's on it, which has the word, Love on it, which has the word, Is on it and which has the word, Best on it. Place all the balloons in a mixed-up fashion at the front of the room. Pair the children in partners. If you have an odd number pair yourself up with a student. Give each child from the partnership a plastic kitchen trash bag. When you say go each child holding a trash bag goes to the front of the room and selects four balloons to stuff in his/her trash bag. The balloons must have a different word on them. When they return, their partner takes the bag and also goes to the front and chooses balloons to place in the bag. When each team has two different sets of balloons in their bag, the activity is over and the balloons are checked for accuracy. Repeat the activity as time and interest allows. When Sabbath school is over each child takes 4 balloons home. Encourage them to share what they have learned about God's love as they share the balloons with family and friends.
