******************************************************* Title: Kindergarten Sabbath School Program, February 6, 1999 From: NAD Children's Ministries (author: Lisa Seeders) Date Completed: December 15, 1998 Abstract: Activities to use in place of program helps to teach the lesson, SOLOMON BUILDS GOD'S TEMPLE ******************************************************* Lesson Aim: Jesus' house is a special place where we worship Him with love and reverence. Memory Verse: "Everything comes from you........" I Chron. 29:14, NIV GETTING THEIR ATTENTION - BUILDING A CHURCH (A visual & kinesthetic activity) Materials needed: Wooden building blocks WHAT THE TEACHER DOES: (To prepare ahead) There are no advance preparations necessary. WHAT THE CHILDREN DO: Have the children gather around a flat floor surface area. (Don't build on tables. The construction may topple causing injury) Put all the blocks in one big pile. Explain to the children that they are to make a church using the blocks. Everyone should have a turn placing blocks where they choose. The only rule is that there can be no noise during construction. No talking, arguing, banging etc. There is no perfect plan. Each child may arrange his blocks as he desires, but they must all be part of one building project, the church. Once the church is constructed to their satisfaction have them return to their seats. In our Bible story today the temple was built. A temple is like a church. Even though it was much much larger than what you have built here, there was no noise during its construction. GO STRAIGHT INTO THE BIBLE STORY. GETTING INTO SCRIPTURE - CHARACTER MIMING (A kinesthetic activity) Materials needed: None WHAT THE TEACHER DOES: (To prepare ahead) There are no advance preparations necessary WHAT THE CHILDREN DO: Ask for volunteers to be workmen, priests, and musicians. Within each of these groups assign children a specific mime to act out. (You may need to give them suggestions on how to mime their part.) Explain that they will need to listen closely for when you talk about their part in the story. Point to them when it is time for them to do their part. All mimes should be done quietly with visual activity but no noise. Workmen mimes: Drawing the plans, cutting boards, carrying huge stones, stitching and weaving cloth Priest mimes: Carrying the ark, Standing in erect attention Musicians: Playing trumpets, Playing cymbals, Playing harps, Singers Place the three groups in different areas apart from each other. Begin narrating the story adding the mimes at the appropriate time. GETTING INTO SCRIPTURE - MEMORY VERSE DOT-TO-DOT Materials needed: The picture of the church on p. 21 in the Kindergarten quarterly Scissors Pencils Plain white paper Glue sticks Thin-line markers WHAT THE TEACHER DOES: (To prepare ahead) On a copy machine, enlarge the picture of the church so it fills most of a sheet of 8 « X 11 paper. You will need to turn the church around and xerox it so it sits horizontally in the middle instead of vertically at the top of the page. Using white out take away the basic outline of the church and the chimney and replace it with numbers in chronological order. (The children will draw the church as a dot-to-dot activity. Xerox one copy for each child in the class. With the scissors, cut each child's doors up the middle line and around the semi-circle. This will enable them to open. Lay a copy of the church onto a second sheet of plain white paper. Open the doors of the church and print the words of the memory verse inside. Xerox this sheet of paper so each child as a copy. WHAT THE CHILDREN DO: 1. Give each child a copy of the dot-to-dot church to complete. 2. Give each child a copy of the memory verse paper and have them glue their church paper over top the memory verse paper. (Make sure they glue it straight and it lines up evenly) 3. Give the children markers to trace over the memory verse words inside the doors of the church. Show the children where the memory verse is found in the Bible. Repeat it several times together. ACTING ON SCRIPTURE - ME IN GOD'S HOUSE (A visual & kinesthetic activity) Materials needed: The completed churches from the previous activity Tissue paper (2-3 different bright colors) A small bell (One for each child) Heavy thread (The kind used for sewing denim) Scissors Tape Glue sticks Stickers of children walking (optional) WHAT THE TEACHER DOES: (To prepare ahead) Cut the tissue paper into small triangular shapes. WHAT THE CHILDREN DO: The children complete their church paper using the materials to create a 3-D effect. They discuss ways to worship reverently adding children stickers or drawing stick figures for each way talked about. 1. Give each child a 6" piece of heavy thread. Instruct them to thread it through the hole at the top of the bell. Tape the bell into place in the chimney. Cut off the excess thread. 2.
