******************************************************* Title: Kindergarten Sabbath School Program, January 30, 1999 From: NAD Children's Ministries (author: Lisa Seeders) Date Completed: December 15, 1998 Abstract: Activities to use in place of program helps to teach the lesson, THE WISEST KING ******************************************************* Lesson Aim: Jesus gives wisdom to those who ask Him. Memory Verse: ""God gives wisdom, knowledge and happiness." Eccl. 2:26, NIV GETTING THEIR ATTENTION - CHAIN REACTION (An auditory activity) Materials needed: None WHAT THE TEACHER DOES: (To prepare ahead) There are no advance preparations necessary WHAT THE CHILDREN DO: Have the children sit in a circle. Teach them this little rhyme and have them repeat it after you line by line. If you could have (children repeat) anything you want (children repeat) what would it be (children repeat) Explain to the children that they are to think of what they would want if they could have anything. Then, beginning with yourself, say the rhyme together and add an ending. Example: If you could have (children repeat) anything you want (children repeat) what would it be (children repeat) Miss Lisa wants ice-cream (children repeat) The child to your left then takes his turn. Before he can add what he wants he has to remember what you wanted and then add his line. Example: If you could have anything you want what would it be Miss Lisa wants ice-cream Timmy wants a new ball Continue going around the circle. Before adding their own desire each child must repeat what the people before him wanted. In our story today King Solomon gets to choose whatever he wants. Do you think he chose any of the things we talked about wanting? Let's see. GO STRAIGHT INTO THE BIBLE STORY. GETTING INTO SCRIPTURE - ROLL-A-DICE MEMORY VERSE REVIEW Materials needed: 1 dice 1 sheet of poster board 1 permanent marker Bible WHAT THE TEACHER DOES: (To prepare ahead) Mark off six blanks on the poster board to represent the six words of the memory verse. WHAT THE CHILDREN DO: Show the children where the verse is found in the Bible. Have them hold up their thumb. With the index finger of their opposite hand have them point to that thumb and say, "God". Have them hold up their index finger on the same hand as their thumb. With the opposite index finger have them point to that index finger and say, "gives". Have them hold up the middle finger. With the opposite index finger point to the middle finger and say, "wisdom". Continue in this manner until they have assigned each finger on one hand and one finger on the other hand a memory verse word. Give the children turns throwing the dice. Whatever number it lands on is the finger they must point to and try and remember the memory verse word that went with that finger. Mostly likely they will need to go back to the beginning at the thumb and work their way through to the finger they are trying to remember. Whenever a child rolls the dice and remembers a word, print it in the correct blank on the poster board. See if you can get all the blanks on the poster board filled in. ACTING ON SCRIPTURE - EENY, MEENY, MINEY MO Materials needed: 8 styrofoam cups Miniature inexpensive 1" high Bibles OR Bible & praying hands stickers (one for each child) WHAT THE TEACHER DOES: (To prepare ahead) Print the following words on the 8 styrofoam cups as shown below. The numbers stand for which cup they go on. 1. Jesus 2. Will 3. My helper 4. Be 5. When a 6. Choice 7. Is made 8. By me Place the 8 cups on a table or on the floor in a horizontal row so the children can clearly see the words. Underneath cup number 4 place one of the miniature Bibles or stickers. WHAT THE CHILDREN DO: Show the children the cups. Tell them there is a surprise under one of the cups. If they were to choose one of the cups how would they go about making that choice? Would they say, "Eeny, meeny, miney mo, catch a piggy by the toe. If he hollers let him go eeny, meeny miney mo?" Well that might be okay if you were choosing between cookies and candy. But many choices we make are much more important. Tell the children you have a better way for them to learn how to make choices. Beginning with the far left cup, read the words on the cups to the children in a rhyming, sing-song way. Point to each cup as you go. When you get to the end (cup number 8) take it away. It is out. Call for a volunteer to begin where you left off. (Back at number 1) Have all the children repeat the rhyme together and help the volunteer count off the cups. He should land on cup number 1. Take it away. Next volunteer begins with cup number two. The whole class repeats the verse while he counts off landing on cup number 3. (Take that cup away). Next volunteer begins on cup number 4 and lands on cup number 6. (Take that cup away). Next volunteer begins on cup number 7 and lands on cup number 5. (Take that cup away). Next volunteer begins on cup number 7 and lands on cup number 2. (Take that cup away). Next volunteer begins on cup number 4 and lands on cup number 7. (Take that cup away). The only cup left is cup number 4. Call a volunteer up to peek under that cup. How will Jesus give us wisdom to know what choices to make? Through the words of the Bible and by praying. Give each child a Bible and praying hands sticker. ACTING ON SCRIPTURE - Materials needed: Green construction paper Markers WHAT THE TEACHER DOES: (To prepare ahead) Using the green construction paper cut out a four-leaf clover for each child. On one petal print, "God gives". On a second petal print, "wisdom". On a third petal print, "knowledge". And on the fourth petal print, "happiness." Hide the four-leaf clovers all around the room. WHAT THE CHILDREN DO: Ask the children if they have ever found a four-leaf clover. People like to find four-leaf clovers. They think it will bring them good luck. Instruct the children to quietly search around the room for a four-leaf clover. When they have found one, they bring it back to their seats with them. After all the children have returned to their seats, explain to them that you know something much better than four-leaf clovers and luck. It's having Jesus for your best friend. If you ask Him to, He will give you wisdom, knowledge and happiness and that's much better than luck! Send the clovers home and encourage the children to share what they have learned with a friend or family member.
