*************************************************************** Title: Kindergarten Sabbath School Program, January 29, 2000 From: NAD Children's Ministries (author: Lisa Seeders) Date Completed: December 15, 1999 Abstract: Activities to use as a supplement to help teach the lesson, THE LOST IS FOUND **************************************************************** Lesson Aim: Jesus will do everything possible to save us. Memory Verse: "There is rejoicing.......... over one sinner who repents." Luke 15:10, NIV GETTING THEIR ATTENTION - HIDE AND SEEK (A primarily kinesthetic activity) Materials needed: None WHAT THE TEACHER DOES: (To prepare ahead) Select a child ahead of time who will hide somewhere outside of the room when it is time for all the children to hide. Choose a spot together and prepare the child to wait until you come to get him/her. WHAT THE CHILDREN DO: Tell the children that you will cover your eyes and count to fifteen. They are to find a place to hide in the room. Each time you find a child take them back to a chair and look for others. When all but the child who is hiding outside of the room has been found, make a comment like, "Now that everyone is here, we can go on with the story." Hopefully the children will protest that someone is missing. Ask questions such as: 1. Can't we go on without ____________? 2. Isn't it good enough that almost everybody is found? 3. Why are you worried about _____________? Take the children with you to find the child hiding outside of the room. When everyone is seated back in the room say, "Jesus loves everyone and wants every single person to be in Heaven with Him. He tells two stories today that show us how important each person is to Him. GO STRAIGHT INTO THE BIBLE STORY. GETTING INTO SCRIPTURE - STORY PUPPET (A multi-sensory activity) Materials needed: Plain white mittens (one for each child) White felt (Enough to cut out two ears for each child) Medium or large wiggly eyes (Two for each child) Cotton balls (one for each child) Hot glue gun (for teacher use only) Elmer's glue WHAT THE TEACHER DOES: (To prepare ahead) Cut out two ears for each child for his/her sheep from the white felt. WHAT THE CHILDREN DO: Have each child make a sheep puppet. After the put the mitten on their hand, hot glue the ears to the top of the mitten where their fingers touch. Have them take the mitten off and glue the wiggly eyes on the front. Roll the cotton ball between your palms to make it in an oblong shape. Glue it on the opposite side of the eyes (which is the back) down low as a tail. (It should probably be hot glued.) Have the children set the puppet aside for the first half of the Bible story about the lost coins. Then they can put it on and make the appropriate sounds and moves as you tell the story of the lost sheep. GETTING INTO SCRIPTURE - MEMORY VERSE GAME (A primarily auditory activity) Materials needed: Small toy sheep(from a farm set etcetera; it needs to fit under a styrofoam cup turned over) (6) styrofoam cups (hot drink cups) Bible WHAT THE TEACHER DOES: (To prepare ahead) Place the styrofoam cups on a flat table or other flat surface about 2" apart. Turn them upside down. WHAT THE CHILDREN DO: Show the children where the memory verse is found in the Bible. Read and repeat it together several times. Explain what it means. Have the children cover their eyes. Hide the toy sheep under one of the styrofoam cups. Have the children open their eyes. Tell them you have lost your sheep. If they want to guess which cup it is hiding under, they must repeat the memory verse first, then guess. If they guess correctly, they get to hide the sheep for the next turn. If they guess incorrectly, someone else may try. Keep playing until someone finds the sheep. Whoever finds the sheep hides it the next time. Play the game until all children can repeat the memory verse. ACTING ON SCRIPTURE -PRAYER PENNIES (A primarily auditory activity) Materials needed: 10 pennies for each child 1 knee-hi nylon for each child WHAT THE TEACHER DOES: (To prepare ahead) There are no advance preparations necessary. WHAT THE CHILDREN DO: Give each child a stack of 10 pennies and a knee-hi nylon. Encourage them to think of 10 people that Jesus loves who they want to pray for. Some of the names they think of may be people who know and love Jesus and some may not. Every time they think of a name or a type of individual (such as the people who broke into my neighbor's house) they drop a penny into their nylon. Remind them that just as Jesus loves everyone, we are to pray for everyone. Encourage them to take their pennies home as a reminder of who they want to pray for each day.
