******************************************************* Title: Kindergarten Sabbath School Program, January 27, 2001 From: NAD Children's Ministries (author: Lisa Seeders) Date Completed: January 5, 2000 Abstract: Activities to use in place of program helps to teach the lesson, GOD'S FIRST PROMISE ******************************************************* Lesson Aim: When Adam and Eve made the wrong choice, God promised a Savior. Memory Verse: "God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life." John 3:16, NIV GETTING THEIR ATTENTION - TREE TIME Materials needed: Construction paper Scissors Glue sticks WHAT THE TEACHER DOES: (To prepare ahead) Make each child a tree shape using brown and green construction paper. Include one evergreen-shaped tree and one palm tree. The rest can be standard green shapes and brown trunks. (The children are too young to worry about the different leaf shapes that distinguish the trees.) Cut out the following shapes from construction paper to be glued on the trees. Cut out 2-3 of each shape. (Bananas, cherries, oranges, acorns, pine cones, coconuts, apples) WHAT THE CHILDREN DO: Give each child a tree shape. Talk about what they can find on trees. Give the bananas to one child to glue on his tree, the cherries to another, etc. until all trees have something growing on them. In our Bible story today there are special trees with all of these good things growing on them. One tree has something very different in it. GO STRAIGHT INTO THE BIBLE STORY. GETTING INTO SCRIPTURE - MEMORY VERSE REVIEW Materials needed: Colored craft foam (Red craft foam enough to make 6 small hearts for each child; 1 sheet per each 2 kids of black craft foam) Scissors Velcro strip WHAT THE TEACHER DOES: (To prepare ahead) >From a half of sheet of black craft foam make each child a cross. Cut out six red hearts from the red craft foam and print the memory verse words as follows on each heart. God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life WHAT THE CHILDREN DO: Show the children where the memory verse is found in the Bible. Give each child a cross. Give them six small pieces of velcro backing to place in various spots on the cross. Help them stick the other velcro sides to the backs of the six hearts. As they learn and repeat the verse with you they stick the hearts onto the cross. GETTING INTO SCRIPTURE - BIBLE STORY DRAMATIZATION Materials needed: A couple pieces of the following fruits: apples, oranges, bananas, pears, anything that grows on trees Rubber or fake snake Garden implements (rake, hoe, shovel etc.) WHAT THE TEACHER DOES: (To prepare ahead) There are no advance preparations necessary except gathering the materials WHAT THE CHILDREN DO: Assign one child the role of Eve and one the role of Adam. Give them the garden implements. The rest of the children will be trees in the Garden of Eden. Give each "tree" some fruit. They hold out their arms like branches with the fruit hanging from the hands. Assign one child the role of the Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil. Wrap the snake around their upper arm. Give him/her fruit to hold also. As you narrate the story have "Adam" and "Eve" go around to each "tree" cultivating and plucking the fruit from them. When you get to the part of the story where Eve leaves Adam and goes to the Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil direct the "Eve" to do that action. For the rest of the story direct the "Adam" and "Eve" into appropriate actions to illustrate the story. Slice up the fruit and share it together as you discuss the meaning of the story. ACTING ON SCRIPTURE - PLAN BOOK Materials needed: Sheet of plain white paper for each child (Have several extras on-hand for do-overs) Pencils with erasers Colors WHAT THE TEACHER DOES: (To prepare ahead) There are no advance preparations necessary. WHAT THE CHILDREN DO: Give each child a sheet of paper. Have them fold it lengthwise, then fold it again so they end up with 4 squares. Open the paper back up so all four squares are showing. Give each child a pencil. In the top left-hand box show them (on your own piece of paper) how to draw a simple square house with two upstairs windows. Draw flame lines coming out one window. Tell the children that making a plan means deciding what your going to do ahead of time in case something goes wrong. In case your house caught fire, what plan could you make ahead of time that would help you in that trouble? (Have a fire escape ladder) Show the children how to draw a rope ladder coming out the window. In the top right-hand square draw a stick figure and color red boo-boo's on different places on the stick figure. What can you plan ahead that will help you if you get boo-boo's? (Have a first-aid box around) Show the children how to draw a square box with a cross on it representing first-aid near the stick figure. In the bottom left-hand square draw one stick figure with many other sticks all around it. Ask the children if they have ever been lost. What plan can you make ahead of time with your family in case you ever get lost, so that it might be easier to find each other? (Go to the nearest cash register person and ask for help) Show the children how to draw a second larger stick figure near the first one holding its hand. In the bottom right-hand square draw a snake. Tell the children this snake represents sin and Satan like from our story today. What plan did God and Jesus make ahead of time in case Adam and Eve sinned? Show the children how to draw a cross in the square. Everyday we can thank Jesus for making this plan for us.
