******************************************************* Title: Kindergarten Sabbath School Program, January 13, 200l From: NAD Children's Ministries (author: Lisa Seeders) Date Completed: December 15, 2000 Abstract: Activities to use in place of program helps to teach the lesson NEW FRIENDS FOR JESUS ******************************************************* Lesson Aim: God's family plan for us brings happiness. Memory Verse: "God said, 'Let us make man in our image'" Genesis 1:26, NIV GETTING THEIR ATTENTION - FRIENDSHIP CIRCLE Materials needed: Magazines (children's magazines showing children from different countries and faiths playing, living and learning in their own setting; Parenting, Children's Ministry, National Geographic World etc.) Scissors 1 sheet of poster board Glue sticks Black permanent marker Paper clips or post-its WHAT THE TEACHER DOES: (To prepare ahead) Draw a large circle on the poster board, taking up most of the board. Look through the magazines and locate pictures of all different kinds of children doing different things. Mark them or tag them in some way with clips or post-its. WHAT THE CHILDREN DO: Explain that the circle is a friendship circle. Have the children look through the pictures and select 2-3 that will represent children they would like to get to know. They cut them and trim them up and glue them inside the friendship circle. Talk with them about why they chose some of the pictures they did. Were the children doing things they like to do? Did they like the way the children dressed or acted? When we meet new friends do we like them to be different from us or be like us? Tack the poster board up on a wall. In our Bible story today, Jesus makes new friends. He doesn't just meet them for the first time, He creates them, and He makes them just like Himself. GO STRAIGHT INTO THE BIBLE STORY. GETTING INTO SCRIPTURE - CREATION STICKER STORY Materials needed: Stickers of the following: flowers (or any vegetation), stars, birds and insects, sea creatures, shells, animals Cotton Stick glue Clear contact paper 1 piece of heavy white card stock paper for each child Markers Scissors WHAT THE TEACHER DOES: (To prepare ahead) With a pencil make boundaries on each child's paper for water edges. Two-thirds of the paper should be a land background and one-third should be a water background. Cut out a sheet of clear contact paper for each child that will cover their card stock paper leaving a « - 1" border. WHAT THE CHILDREN DO: 1. Have the children color the card stock paper where the water background is blue with markers or crayons. 2. Help each child cover their card stock sheet with clear contact paper. Trim the edges. 3. As you review the days of creation, add stickers where and when it is appropriate. Use cotton for the air and firmament to make clouds. Glue stick them to the contact paper. 4. When you talk about Adam and Eve, have them draw figures in wherever they want to. You'll have to use markers because of the clear contact paper. GETTING INTO SCRIPTURE - MEMORY VERSE MATCH-UP GAME Materials needed: Same stickers as suggested in previous activity 3 X 5 cards Pen Bibles WHAT THE TEACHER DOES: (To prepare ahead) Prepare the 3 X 5 cards in the following way: 1. On five 3 X 5 cards put 3-4 stars on each. Underneath the stars write the words of the memory verse, two words to a card except for the last word. (Example: "God said.........Let us.............make man..... in our..........image." This will be one child's set of cards. 2. On five 3 X 5 cards put some flowers. Underneath the flowers write the words of the memory verse the same way you did with the star cards. 3. Make a set of five 3 X 5 cards for each child. Each child's set must have the same stickers on them. 4. Mix the cards up and lay them on the floor for a match-up game. WHAT THE CHILDREN DO: Show the children where the memory verse is found in the Bible. Have them take turns flipping two cards over at a time. As soon as any child matches two of the same sticker cards, those cards become his. From there on out no one can claim any cards with that sticker on them but him. When it becomes his turn again, he can only keep cards that have that particular sticker on them. Little by little each child will begin to collect a certain set of cards and the game continues until all children have collected their special set. Help the children line the cards up in order so that the memory verse can be repeated correctly. ACTING ON SCRIPTURE - BALLOON BOP Materials needed: (6) balloons Magic marker WHAT THE TEACHER DOES: (To prepare ahead) Blow up the six balloons. Number each balloon from 1 - 6 with the marker, one number to a balloon. WHAT THE CHILDREN DO: Have the children form a wide circle. Bat the balloon with the number 1 on it into the air. Say what was created on that day. (Light) Continue to bat that balloon around several times letting children call out the word, light whenever they hit the balloon. Bat balloon #2 into the circle. Say what was created on that day. (Air) Continue to bat that balloon around several times letting children call out the word, air whenever they hit the balloon. Repeat this same procedure for balloons #3, 4, 5 & 6. The balloons can then be mixed up and batted into the circle in any order. The children always call out what was created on that day before batting the balloon. Older Kindergartners may be able to have more than one balloon in the circle going at a time.
