The purpose of the Adventist Community Services (ACS) network can be stated very simply: to serve the poor and hurting in Christ's name.
That short form of the mission statement appears in countless reports, newsletters, church bulletins, posters, and appeals. It is taped on the walls of centers, health screening vans, disaster mobile units and inner city project offices.
Our mission statement tells the purpose of being. It is the mission of ADRA around the world and Adventist Community Services in the United States to:
Reflect
Reflect the character of God through humanitarian activities.
Support
Actively support local communities through projects which are planned and implemented cooperatively.
Assist
Provide assistance in situations of crisis or chronic distress and work toward the development of long-term solutions with those affected.
Achieve
Work through equitable partnerships with those in need to achieve positive and sustainable change in communities.
Build
Build networks which develop community-based capacity, appropriate technology, and skills at all levels.
Develop
Develop and maintain relationships with constituents and partners which provide effective channels for mutual growth and action.
Promote
Promote and expand the equitable and participatory involvement of women in community action and services.
Advocate
Advocate for and assist in the increase of local community capacity to care for and responsibly manage environmental resources.
Facilitate
Facilitate the right and ability of children to attain their full potential and assist in assuring each child's survival to achieve that potential.
